Join Michele Gorman, SUDC Ambassador, in raising awareness and financial support for Sudden Unexpected Death in Childhood (SUDC) and honoring the life of Blake Louis Wilson. – One Step, One Prayer, One Dollar, One Climb at a time. Together we can make a difference.
Imagine a world where every parent wakes up knowing their child is safe, happy, and healthy—a world where unimaginable loss is replaced with hope, answers, and action. Sadly, for Matthew & Brittney Wilson of Canton, Texas, that world shattered on October 30, 2018. Their vibrant son, Blake Louis Wilson- known lovingly as Blakey, enjoying his class party, laid down for a nap like any other day. But this day was different. Blake never woke up.
Blake wasn’t sick. There were no warning signs. His passing introduced the Wilson’s and their family to a heartbreaking reality: Sudden Unexpected Death in Childhood (SUDC)—a category of death that offers no cause, no answers, and no closure. Families like the Wilson’s are left grappling with the unknown, while the world around them remains largely unaware of this devastating reality. No family should ever have to endure this heartbreak without answers.
SUDC remains one of the least understood and least recognized categories of death with causes unknown, in children over 12 months of age. Unlike SIDS, awareness and funding for SUDC are severely lacking. Parents deserve answers when faced with the unthinkable loss of a child. Doctors, first responders, social workers, medical examiners, and emergency personnel need training to handle these cases with care and precision. Lawmakers must act to fund research and establish protocols that bring clarity to families and prevent future tragedies.
No parent should ever lose a child without understanding why. No family should have to endure grief compounded by unanswered questions.
In the face of unimaginable loss, there is a powerful source of comfort and strength: prayer. We invite you to join us in lifting families affected by Sudden Unexpected Death in Childhood (SUDC) and honoring the memory of precious children like Blake Louis Wilson.
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts filled with hope. We ask for Your loving embrace to surround families who have experienced the devastating loss of a child. Grant them peace that surpasses understanding and strength to carry on through their grief.
We pray for wisdom and guidance for researchers, medical professionals, and lawmakers working to make SUDC known. May their efforts bring clarity, healing, protocols and prevention so that no family must endure this pain without understanding.
Lord, we lift SUDC, their ambassadors and all those who are tirelessly advocating for awareness and change. Bless their journeys, amplify their voices, and let their work shine as a beacon of hope and progress.
And finally, we pray for Blake’s memory to serve as a light that inspires action, compassion, salvation and unity. May his story move hearts and spark change that saves lives and brings comfort to those in need.
In Your name, we pray. Amen.
I’m taking my passion for climbing to new heights—literally. I’m preparing to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, not just as a climber but as an Ambassador for SUDC awareness and research. Each step I take up Africa’s tallest peak is a step toward shining a global light on SUDC—a category not a cause of death that devastates families in silence. My resolve is rooted in one belief: “no parent should endure the loss of their child without answers”. My climb is not just about reaching the summit; it’s about breaking barriers, funding research, educating first responders, and ensuring no family faces this heartbreak alone.
I often describe myself as a woman on a mission—driven by determination, boundless love, and an unshakable sense of purpose. For decades, I’ve dedicated my life to advocating for vulnerable children, but the true catalyst for this trek and climbing journey is profoundly personal. It began with a friendship that grew into family—a bond that would forever alter the course of my life.
The Wilson family welcomed me into their world with open arms a little over a year ago. It was through them that I came to know of Blake Louis Wilson, their vibrant and spirited son, whose legacy they have lovingly preserved and shared with everyone they encounter. I was told Blake’s laughter was contagious, his presence magnetic, and that he was the embodiment of everything beautiful and good, a soul so pure and extraordinary that it felt as though perfection had taken human form. But on October 30, 2018, the unthinkable happened. Blake went down for his afternoon nap and never woke up. No rhyme, not reason, no cause; he simply laid down closed his eyes and never woke up.
Sudden Unexpected Death in Childhood (SUDC)—a category, not a cause that again offers no warning, no answers, and no solace.
Meeting the Wilson’s six years after Blake’s passing, I have seen unfailing love and healing that only God can provide. Daily they stand in faith, trusting God with each moment! I can honestly say I’ve witnessed the raw, unrelenting grief of my best friend Brittney as she lives not for herself but her children both here and with God. Her pain, an unimaginable loss, a storm—unforgiving and ceaseless—and yet, within it, she clings fiercely to the memory of her son and her faith in God. Watching her endure such heartbreak has lit a fire within me— a fire to ensure that Blake’s memory will not fade in the world but instead become a beacon for change.
As I climb may Blake’s memory be my compass, his spirit, my strength. I’m climbing for him, for every family searching for answers, and for a future where SUDC is no longer a mystery. My journey is more than a physical feat—it’s a call to action.
Blake’s story is not just one of loss; it is one of love so profound that it demands action. It is a call to arms for every parent, advocate, doctor, first responded, law maker, case worker and human being who believes that no family should have to endure such unanswered sorrow. In climbing Kilimanjaro I hope and pray his legacy might illuminate a path toward awareness, prevention, protocols and research.
Blake Louis Wilson will forever be more than a name; he is a reminder of how fragile life can be and how boundless love must be in its response. Join me in turning heartbreak into hope and passion into progress. Together, we can honor Blake’s legacy and create lasting change. #RememberBlakey
